Los Angeles Area Ataxia Support Group Meeting
We meet 2-4pm bi-monthly on the 2nd Saturday at the Westside Center for Independent Living (WCIL),1201 Venice Blvd., LA, CA 90066. Plenty of Accessible parking in back of WCIL. We meet in the community room. From the parking lot (in rear) enter through patio. For people with disabilities, mainly with some type of Ataxia. Any type of disibility tends to isolate us. Tjhis is a place to meet people, socialize, and support eachother. We all something in common, our disabilities. Together we can make life easier, more comfortable, supportive, and productive. Ironman for Ataxia
NAF member Joe Golminas is once again
training to complete an Ironman Triathlon (2.4-
mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run) in an
effort to raise money for the National Ataxia
Foundation.
Joe is teaming up with Janus Funds, a sponsor
of the Ironman Triathlons and a supporter
of athletes who not only participate in the
Ironman races, but who also raise money
for their own favorite charities. Through the
“Janus Charity Challenge” the top 50 fundraisers
of each race will be awarded an
additional donation of $100 to $10,000 by
Janus for their charity. Last year with everyone’s
generosity, Joe raised enough money to
win $750 of “free” money for the National
Ataxia Foundation from Janus Funds.

NE Florida Support Group & Shands Hospital Ataxia Research Center IAAD Information Booth
11:00am at Shands Hospital-Gainesville, 1600 S.W. Archer Road, Gainesville, (not the McKnight Brain Institute) in the atrium (first floor) to hand out brochures, answer questions and in general, just create more awareness about ataxia. The group chose this date because the Hospital will have heavier traffic during the week. Phuong Deleyrolle, the Clinical Research Study Coordinator, at the Ataxia Research Clinic at Shands has been working with Steve Brown from our group and NAF to coordinate this event in celebration of International Ataxia Awareness Day. Arts for Ataxia & Chesapeake Chapter Annual IAAD Picnic
What: “Arts for Ataxia” is a dynamic new event, featuring a collaborative performing arts show involving student groups and members of the CC-NAF ataxia community. When: The event will be held at the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus on September 25th, 2010.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December, aims to
promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being
of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration
of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The theme of
the Day is based on the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by
persons with disabilities, established by the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons,
adopted by General Assembly in 1982.
